Photography is one of the most popular hobbies across the globe and everyone with a smart phone believes they can take "the best pictures - EVER". That may be fine as a hobby, but when you decide to launch into a photography business you quickly learn that just taking great pictures will not get you out of the unemployment line.
For an industry that was born a mere 200 years ago, it took 100 years for it to become ubiquitous in our culture. The photography world shifted in 1900 when the "Brownie" camera was conceived by Kodak as a vehicle to sell rolls of film - thereby bringing photography to the masses. The Brownie was a cardboard box with a simply meniscus lens that took 2-1/4" square photos on a roll of film. The Brownie cost only $1, but it sold millions and millions of dollars in film and processing making Kodak one of the most successful start-ups in early American history.
For a photographer trying to build a business, just keeping up with the now rapidly changing technology is a challenge unto itself. Add to this, the volatile and increasingly complex requirements of customers and you find an extremely difficult business to be in.
Our guest today is one of those people who can control a photo shoot better than most. He knows how and when to pose a shot and when to go for the candid capture of an event. But there is more to Everett Hamilton because he does it all - video, graphic design, web marketing and even branding.
