It has been called a "Global Phenomenon" and a force to be reckoned with. They fuel social change and economic growth. They are reshaping the world. They are powerful - and are just beginning to recognize exactly how influential they have become. They recognize that their collective achievements open doors which were closed to previous generations of their peers. Because it is in their nature anyway, they connect and collaborate better than any previous generation.

Of course, this global phenomenon is the rise of women entrepreneurs. Today 1,100 women will launch a business. Tomorrow another 1,100 women will launch a business, and the day after that and the day after that. Women owned small businesses account for one-third of all businesses in the US and increasing each day.

They are an economic powerhouse employing 1.5 million people and generating $226 Billion in revenues. Here in Florida, women are starting businesses at the highest rate in the nation - growing 67% in the last 9 years. Here's another surprising statistics - 45% of all women owned firms are owned by a minority woman.

Today's guests are all successful Palm Beach County women entrepreneurs and all are in completely different and non-traditional businesses. There is not a shred of similarity between the 3 businesses other than they are owned and actively managed by a woman. What ties them together is their dedication to the benefits of belong to the Women's Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches.

Denise Albritton

Denise Albritton is a local girl, born and raised in West Palm Beach. She comes by entrepreneurship naturally since her parents owned Bob's Janitorial Services so it was only natural that she would gravitate into being a business owner. Ten years ago, she and her husband Mike launched Bus One, a charter bus service which has become the largest locally owned and operated minority and woman-owned full service transportation provider in Palm Beach County. Cynthia Heathcoe

Cynthia Heathcoe came into entrepreneurship through a very circuitous route with stops along the way as a single mom with 6 kids. She discovered a talent and a passion for design and an extraordinary ability to sell people on her ideas for their personal space. After working for various furniture stores in the area, Cynthia decided she needed to own her own store so she could serve clients the way she wanted to with the products she knew they would love. Three years later, she has proven her abilities to make her customers happy and to keep them coming back. Larissa Shaffer

Larissa Shaffer is a native Floridian and a graduate of USF and FAU. She is a Florida licensed CPA and began her career at Ernst & Young. After practicing a a few other public accounting firms, Larissa decided she wanted to be her own boss and about 2.5 years ago launched her own CPA firm in Jupiter, Fl. She is also a strong advocate for children and served for 7 years as a Guardian Ad Litem supporting and promoting the safety of children in the foster care system.
